Prof. Sizulu Moyo
Associate Professor Sizulu Moyo (MBChB, MPH, Ph.D.) is a public health professional with extensive research experience across various disciplines. She serves as a Senior Research Director in the Public Health, Societies, and Belonging research division at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in South Africa, where she leads and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of researchers. Additionally, she holds an Honorary Associate Professorship at the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town.
Her work primarily focuses on the epidemiology and surveillance of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, integrating clinical and social aspects of disease, health, and well-being. Professor Moyo has led several national surveys on TB, HIV, and COVID-19 in South Africa, collaborating with both national and international stakeholders, and has published numerous scientific articles.
After practicing as a clinician, she began her research career at the South African TB Vaccine Trial Initiative (SATVI) at the University of Cape Town. There, she was involved in building capacity for TB vaccine trials in South Africa, working on preparatory epidemiological studies and conducting vaccine trials. Before joining the HSRC, she worked as an epidemiologist focusing on drug-resistant TB at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Cape Town, South Africa.
